The child of MERI and Kody Brown, Leon, has recently announced that they identify as transgender. Before, the child was called Mariah, but now goes by the name Leo or Leon, and prefers to be addressed with they/them pronouns. This information was shared by the Sister Wives star.

Leon, a 26-year-old individual, courageously revealed their gender identity as “incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic” in an uplifting post on Instagram. They uploaded photos of themselves with a big grin standing in a doorway donning shorts and a shirt. Leon shared that someone recently advised them that they did not have to have everything figured out before presenting themselves to the world. Hence, Leon introduced themselves as trans and disclosed their preferred name, which is Leon or Leo, and their pronouns, which are they/them. They recounted a pivotal moment when they were young and first realized they were not a girl. However, Leon regretted growing up in a highly gendered and restrictive environment.

I grew up being socialized as a girl and later as a woman, but now I’m ready to reveal my true self to the world. I am proudly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic. Being queer and trans are some of my favorite parts of myself, and I am still discovering new things to love about myself every day. I am excited to keep evolving into the best version of myself in all contexts. While sharing my identity with others, I also want to establish clear boundaries. Please refer to me only as Leo or Leon and use they/them pronouns. If you can’t do that, then we won’t have anything to talk about. I am Merit and Kody’s only child and got engaged to Audrey Kriss in March 2019. Audrey recently came out as transgender and is now using they/them pronouns as well. I support them fully in their journey towards self-discovery, and I hope to receive the same respect and understanding from others.
