Introducing Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo – a quartet of some of the most extraordinary big cats in existence!
Meet these lovable siblings, the ligers- a unique hybrid of lions and tigers. These creatures are a rare sight with only a mere 1,000 of them in existence globally, and most are found in captivity. But, these four brothers, Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo, are even more exceptional than other ligers as they are believed to be the first white ligers ever to be born!
These brothers’ parents are Saraswati, a white tiger, and Ivory, a white lion. Both white tigers and lions are scarce species with only 1,200 white tigers and 300 white lions present worldwide.
T.I.G.E.R. Sanctuary in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is home to Ivory, Saraswati, and their adorable cubs. This sanctuary has a remarkable history of breeding ligers, and one of their prized possessions is Hercules – the largest cat worldwide, acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records. Despite his mammoth size of 922 pounds, Hercules is a gentle giant who enjoys playing with his caretakers and his little nephews.
After missing just one day of seeing them, it appears as though their growth has multiplied. It’s almost as if they’re being inflated like a balloon with a tire pump.
The liger cubs display characteristics of both tigers and lions, with their own distinct personalities. Among the four cubs, Apollo stands out as the smallest and most cat-like, enjoying cuddles and petting from his handlers. Meanwhile, Yeti is the largest and most attention-seeking of the bunch, with Dr. Antle predicting that he may even surpass his uncle Hercules in size. Despite their current small stature, Dr. Antle believes that the cubs will grow to be at least 10 feet tall and weigh around 750 pounds by the time they reach two years old. It’s astounding to think of these little creatures becoming such giants!
