Gayrene Meade got devastating news on June 7, when she learned that her mother, daughter and uncle had been in a head-on collision. Unfortunately, Gayrene’s uncle Kenneth Graden didn’t survive his injuries. Gayrene’s mother Tanya sustained a broken knee, while her daughter Memphis Rose suffered a punctured lung, a fractured and dislocated neck, and a broken spine. Memphis Rose, who is only six years old, went into cardiac arrest and couldn’t move or breathe for almost three minutes. The doctor administered CPR on site until Memphis Rose was transported to the hospital by an air ambulance.
It’s a devastating truth that her spinal cord injury will never heal, leaving her with a permanent paralysis that confines her to a wheelchair. Despite this, Memphis has always held onto her dream of having a furry companion by her side. Enter Juliette, a golden retriever introduced to her through the Chasin a Dream Foundation. Thanks to the foundation’s founder, Lori Griffith, and the Furry Friends Rescue Center, Memphis finally gets to welcome a confident, human puppy into her life.
Juliet is currently undergoing training to become a service dog for Memphis Rose, a process which is expected to take up to a year. The pair first met outside St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida and it was an instant connection. Upon seeing Memphis Rose in her wheelchair, Juliet jumped into her lap and began licking and hugging her. Juliet’s owner, Meade, explained that her daughter was thrilled to meet the adorable puppy as she is a huge dog lover and aspires to become a veterinarian. Meade went on to describe the encounter as a magical moment, particularly after enduring a difficult few weeks.
Ever since their first meeting, this lovable pair has gotten the chance to hang out multiple times, with Juliette even getting the opportunity to join Memphis on a plane ride.
