Simon, a border collie who was recovering from his injuries, was taking care of Sammie, a 4-month-old boxer-mix who had recently undergone surgery at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Despite being rescued weeks apart, Simon seemed to empathize with Sammie’s condition and was seen placing his paw gently on Sammie’s. The two dogs formed a special bond right after they met, and according to Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Simon guarded Sammie well. Sammie had suffered unimaginable cruelty and was shot in the head, spray-painted, and dragged behind a car. However, with Simon’s company, Sammie is on the path to recovery. Although Sammie still has a long way to go, Simon will soon be up for adoption and frequently asks about his young friend.
According to O’Sullivan, there is uncertainty as to whether Sammie will fully recover after his recent surgery. The doctor needs two weeks to monitor his limb and ensure that infections don’t occur. While it is possible that Sammie may lose one or both of his legs, the medical team is doing everything possible to preserve them.
