The Sacramento SPCA took in Batty, a 5-month-old Bulldog who was left in a terrible state by his owner. The poor puppy was covered in filth and had a large abscess, which hinted at a sad story of backyard breeding gone awry. It seems that the breeder decided to abandon Batty due to his blindness, as they probably couldn’t make any money from a puppy with this condition.
Despite his challenges, the staff at the shelter gave Batty the care and attention he needed to thrive. His determination and positive attitude transformed him into a happy and friendly pup deserving of a forever home. However, due to his rare congenital birth defect, finding an adoptive family willing to care for a permanently blind dog was difficult. When his companion, Bueller, found a home, the staff recognized the urgent need to find Batty a loving family to call his own.
Batty’s story spread through social media, and a heartfelt plea was made for someone to adopt him. Cassidy Kraus and Brett Weyers, a couple from Wisconsin, came across his story and felt that Batty would be a perfect addition to their family, having experience in caring for a blind dog named Soto. Fueled by love and determination, Cassidy, Brett, Soto, and their children embarked on a 33-hour journey to Sacramento to bring Batty home. The moment they finally met the precious Bulldog was emotional, and Batty, now known as Ago, happily embraced his new family, including his canine sibling who shared his visual impairment.
Although Ago’s beginning was tough, he has now found happiness. He is living in a loving household where he is cherished and cared for, and he is thriving as a valued family member. The positivity that he exudes and his calming presence have brought immense joy to Cassidy, Brett, and their kids, making their family complete.
