Romeo was born with a facial abnormality that distinguished him from his siblings. Being a stray cat on the streets of southern Spain, he went unnoticed and may have died without anyone noticing. Fortunately, Laura Llácer, the director and co-founder of Santuario Compasión Animal, discovered him and decided to take him in. Although all of his siblings had found homes, Romeo was considered “too ugly” to be adopted. Moved by his plight, Llácer gave him a new home among other rescued animals at the sanctuary in southeastern Spain.
Llácer says that Romeo always has a companion by his side these days, and even refers to one as his “best buddy.” He will soon have even more animal friends to keep him company, such as cows, ducks, turkeys, and even soft toy bunnies.
According to Llácer, Romeo has a distinct and loving personality that sets him apart. Despite being a cat, there is something charming about his behavior that makes him endearing. Although he has a physical deformity, it also adds to his uniqueness and makes him stand out even more.
