Meet Merlin – the Canadian Ragdoll cat who has a permanent resting b*tch face. But there’s another feline named Merlin who is taking the internet by storm, and his face couldn’t be more different. This adorable kitten has milky blue eyes and soft, dark gray fur that looks like a fluffy plush toy. Merlin has become an internet sensation, thanks to his human parents – Nathanial Green and Elliot Green, both visual artists who have created an Instagram page filled with visually stunning content dedicated to their furry friend.

In 2017, the Greens visited the Lynchburg Humane Society during their “Free Cat Friday” event where they came across Merlin. Although Elliot fell in love with the feline at first sight, he confessed to Bored Panda that Merlin wasn’t his initial choice. Elliot’s colleague had recently adopted an adorable kitten from the shelter and convinced him to go there. Initially, Elliot and Nathanial had their hearts set on a Siamese kitten, but upon arriving at the shelter, they discovered that all of the Siamese kittens had either been put on hold or adopted.
Despite facing setbacks in their search for a new feline companion, the couple persisted. During their visit to an animal shelter, they were approached by a kind lady who noticed their uncertainty and offered to show them her personal favorite. However, she warned them that the kitten had some health issues and was currently recovering from a head cold. Upon learning that the kitten was also blind, the couple was initially concerned about their ability to provide the necessary care. Nevertheless, it was love at first hold, and they knew that this little kitten named Merlin was meant to be a part of their family.
Merlin is a beloved cat that the Greens are thrilled to have in their lives. According to Elliot, Merlin is a friendly feline who enjoys attention and physical affection. Additionally, Merlin is not destructive nor does he display any pettiness towards his owners. Despite being blind since birth, Merlin does not experience fear and will try to jump from high places. He is not shy around people and will eagerly greet his owners and jump on guests who are seated on the couch. Merlin’s favorite spot is on someone’s lap where he can enjoy some quality time.
This adorable ball of fluff just can’t seem to get enough of his human fathers. Whenever they settle down on the couch or bed, he eagerly jumps up and snuggles with them. One of his favorite things is getting his face and ears scratched, and for some reason, he really enjoys having the areas around his eyes massaged. Even when someone brings their hand up to his face, he’ll awkwardly nuzzle into it as if trying to push them away, but it’s really just his way of showing affection. Nathanial, his other dad, thinks it’s just the cutest thing.
If you ever come across Merlin, you won’t be able to resist admiring his striking appearance. He’s one of a kind, being a distinctive blend of a Munchkin and a Persian feline, which is commonly known as a Napoleon breed. According to his owner, this breed is relatively new, having been around for only 20-22 years. Despite their small stature, Napoleons are incredibly agile and can move around like any other regular cat. They mostly inherit the Persian cats’ physical traits, making them even more uniquely adorable.

Merlin has striking, milky white eyes that resemble those of a White Walker from Game of Thrones. However, this is not a trait of his breed but rather a result of his blindness. Despite his visual impairment, Merlin’s father claims that he lives a fulfilling life. Initially, when they moved into their apartment, Merlin had difficulty navigating his surroundings, but he quickly adapted to his new environment and made it his own. The only recurring challenge he faces is bumping into the glass edges of their coffee table occasionally, but he seems to have learned to avoid it. Merlin’s primary concerns revolve around food and his fathers’ whereabouts.
Merlin, the blind feline, has not faced any problems regarding his condition. However, he underwent some other health concerns. Elliot, his owner, mentioned that Merlin was having seizures for a brief period, and the reason behind it remained unknown. After conducting some research and experimenting with alternatives, they discovered that wheat in his food was causing the seizures. Consequently, they eliminated wheat from his diet, and ever since then, Merlin has been in good health.
Introducing the Greens: Meet @nathanialtgreen, a multi-talented individual born in Michigan. He’s skilled in playing the keyboard, designing, and communicating. Nathanial has a soft spot for chicken and waffles, and he loves to add syrup to almost anything. He also enjoys reading about politics in his spare time. On the other hand, @elliotgreen.co hails from Istanbul, Turkey. Elliot is an art director, branding specialist, and photographer who is passionate about olive oil and Daniela Andrade. Elliot spends much of his time admiring typefaces at Target. Both Nathanial and Elliot met while studying at Liberty University and eventually moved to Nashville, TN. They tied the knot last September and can usually be found hanging out at Baja Burrito or 51st Deli.
Merlin is a friendly and affectionate feline who enjoys spending time with people and animals alike. Nevertheless, he has experienced some unpleasant encounters with fellow cats who have been less than kind to him. Despite his docile nature, Merlin has shown some signs of aggression by hissing at times. It is important to monitor his interactions with other creatures to ensure his safety. Nonetheless, Merlin remains a delightful pet in every other regard.
Merlin, the adorable creature, has a strong liking for watermelon. It’s quite evident that this fruit is also Elliot’s favorite, as he is frequently served with it.
Merlin, the adorable feline that has captured the hearts of many online users, was never meant to become a viral sensation according to the Greens. Nathaniel explained that they simply had a lot of pictures of Merlin on their phones and thought it would be fun to share them with others. Although they didn’t regularly post on the account, they made sure that the posts looked great when they did. Elliot was particularly proud of his apartment at the time and thought that Merlin would make a great subject to showcase it.
The feedback received has been quite unexpected. It’s amazing how many people seem to come across photographs of Merlin and tell us about it.
The family expressed their gratitude towards the Lynchburg Humane Society for rescuing and providing them with a little bundle of happiness. They acknowledged the vital role played by animal shelters and their selfless efforts in helping animals in need. The family feels indebted to such organizations for bringing joy into their lives.
“I am a present, so enjoy me. You are most welcome.”
