If you ask me, special needs cats are truly special. Not only do they pull at our heartstrings, but they have the ability to show us that special needs doesn’t have to define you. Oftentimes, these cats are brave, resilient, and oh-so-beautiful. Once we open up our homes and our hearts to these cats, we show them that there is a place for them and that they don’t have to worry about ever having a roof over their heads again.

For an adorable duo named Poe and Paisley, they forever changed their human’s life in ways she never thought possible. Sadly, Paisley crossed the rainbow bridge last March, but her legacy and spirit live on in the hearts of many. I caught up with Poe and Paisley’s human hoping to feature their story, and thankfully for me, she agreed. So, everyone get to know about this pair of kitties who’ve proven to the world that special needs cats should be spared from euthanasia.

How did Poe come into your life?

Poe was spotted by a passer who contacted us to rescue him, he was around 4-6 weeks old and already paralysed, and with no mum in sight.

Can you share with me some details about his special needs?

Poe was taken to the vet day of rescue and no tests, X-rays, etc. had shown any issues with broken bones so the doctors said he was most likely born with nerve damage.

How did he get his cute name?

Poe’s name was chosen by his rescue partner we liked the name and now 4 years later I can’t imagine him being named anything else.

What is his personality like?

Poe is a massive mama’s boy, he loves his mice and catnip toys, he doesn’t warm up to people quickly and when he does decide to come out from under the bed to meet them he would always look back at me and makes sure I’m there.

What are his favorite hobbies?

Terrorizing the foster babies, catnip toys, and mice.

How do they get along with one another?

Poe and Paisley were together since they were rescued so they were pretty close.

What’s something special you’d like for people to know about Poe and Paisley?

That paralyzed cats don’t need to be euthanized, they can still live long happy lives, Poe loves to climb and jump off things even without the use of his back legs, he gets expressed 3 times a day, and he suffered from constipation a few times and now he gets daily meds to help and a prescribed diet.
