Nellie, a new mother, experienced a 14-hour labour.
A Dalmatian has given birth to an incredible 18 puppies – twice the usual number for the breed. Typically, Dalmatians have litters of around six to nine puppies, and it is not uncommon for some to give birth to as many as 15. However, Nellie, a first-time mother belonging to former nurse Louise Clement, surpassed all expectations when she delivered her whopping brood last month. The litter consisted of 10 male and eight female puppies, and Ms Clement, who lives in Lancashire, was amazed by the size of the litter. Though they knew Nellie was big, they had no idea she would give birth to so many adorable little pups.
According to the owner, the female Dalmatian had a successful and uncomplicated delivery. However, she surprised everyone by giving birth to 18 puppies instead of the anticipated 15. The owner initially thought that Nellie had finished giving birth because she appeared to be sleeping, but three additional puppies unexpectedly arrived. This brings the total number of Dalmatians in the breeder’s household to 27, including Nellie’s mother, Penny, and grandmother, Pebbles.
